We continue to generate income for the communities of Cateme
Vulcan, through its Horticultural Value Chain Project, continues to positively impact the lives of local farmers through investments and support throughout the production chain, implementation and equipping of an input store to boost the supply of improved seeds and production instruments, training and technical assistance with greater emphasis on tomato, cabbage, onion, lettuce, pepper and okra crops, among others.
In the last two months, around 40 tons of various vegetables were harvested and sold, and it is expected to produce more than 100 tons of vegetables by the end of the current campaign. With this increase in production and productivity, there has also been an increase in income for families, thus guaranteeing their food and nutritional security and creating jobs in a sustainable way.
Beatriz Jóse Abuzo, vegetable producer at Fazenda Modelo, spoke about the improvements she is experiencing with the support being given by our company.
“With the creation of the cooperative, the sales process was made easier, we no longer need to go to the city of Tete or Moatize, which guarantees that the vegetables do not spoil due to lack of customers”, said Aboze, and added: “this helps us to Having a higher income helps a lot with the family’s income, especially in terms of school supplies, paying school fees for the children and our own daily food”, concluded the producer.
Cassamo Francisco, a vegetable seller at Kwatchena Market for seven years, said he was attracted to Fazenda Modelo because of the quality and availability of vegetables.
“The products are of good quality, fresh and are ready to be purchased, as soon as I arrive, I don’t need to search for them, as they are already available to be collected”, explained Francisco.
In the end, Felizardo Vaz, representing Vulcan, stated that this is the result of continuous work carried out by our company with the communities, and consists of training, technical assistance and distribution of seeds and inputs.
“Farmers receive technical training to improve production, production instruments consisting of hoes, machetes and watering cans, as well as seeds for each crop such as: cabbage, lettuce, onion, pepper and tomato”, concluded Vaz.
Vulcan reinforces that it will continue to support Cateme producers so that they can develop their agricultural activity, promoting alternative sources of income and guaranteeing family subsistence.
