Vulcan reinforces support for agricultural development and food security in Moatize

As part of the Programme to Support Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security Development Programme, Vulcan delivered inputs and production tools to 3,638 families in the communities of Cateme, Cateme Sede, M’phandue, Ntchenga, Nhamitsatsi, Cancope, Inhalenga, Calenga, Nhambalualu and in the neighbourhoods of the city of Moatize.
The initiative, which aims to strengthen the productive capacity of communities and improve food and nutritional security, included the distribution of 86 tonnes of certified seeds, namely maize, peanuts, nhemba beans and boer beans; 99.6 tonnes of fertiliser; 10,914 production tools, such as machetes, hoes and axes; 1,819 litres of insecticide; and various protective equipment, including masks, sprayers, rubber boots and raincoats. This initiative contributes to increased agricultural production and improved income for beneficiary families.
For the Administrator of the District of Moatize, Colen Pita Djulay, “with this support from Vulcan in certified seeds and fertilisers, when sowing, crops will be able to grow and produce in quantity. We want to draw the attention of all beneficiaries to make the best use of these seeds, using them exclusively in fields prepared for this purpose. We are happy because, at the district level, rainfall is good.”
Victor Zimba, Vulcan’s Social Development Supervisor, explained: “We consider this contribution to be of great importance for the food security of the population of Moatize, because without the supply of these inputs and production equipment, agricultural development would not be possible. This investment represents a significant step towards meeting the needs of communities and strengthening local agricultural development.”
With this initiative, Vulcan reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of communities in the district of Moatize, promoting food self-sufficiency and strengthening family farming.
