Vulcan Recognised as Best Mining Project of the Year in Mozambique

Vulcan has been awarded the Best Mining Project of the Year 2026 at the 12th edition of the Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition (MMEC 2026), held on 6 and 7 May at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo.

The recognition highlights the company’s work in promoting Circular Economy practices, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and innovation within Mozambique’s mining sector.

MMEC 2026 brought together policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and national and international experts to discuss the future of the mining and energy sectors in Mozambique and the broader region.

In addition to the award received, Vulcan actively participated in several high-level panel discussions, reaffirming its commitment to the sustainable development of the extractive sector. The company was represented by its CEO, Mukesh Kumar, and the Executive Head of Mine, Leonardo Xerinda, who joined panels alongside government representatives, financial institutions, and energy companies.

During his intervention, Mukesh Kumar emphasised that mining is a highly capital-, energy-, technology- and innovation-intensive industry, advocating for increased investment in geological exploration, infrastructure, and innovation as essential drivers to transform Mozambique’s and Africa’s mineral potential into economic growth, industrialisation, and tangible opportunities for communities.

Leonardo Xerinda, in turn, highlighted the importance of competitive energy availability, efficient logistics infrastructure connected to distribution hubs, and gradual industrialisation as key factors in strengthening local participation in the value chain.

“Mozambique has the geology, the geography and the attention of the market. The conditions that will attract more investment, increase production and integrate more people into the value chain are not mysterious; they are the practical enablers we discussed: competitive costs, connected infrastructure, predictable regulation, incremental industrialisation and continuous dialogue. If we maintain disciplined focus on these factors, we will not need to debate potential and performance, as the results will speak for themselves,” said Xerinda.

It is worth noting that in 2025, Vulcan was also recognised as Best Mining Company of the Year during the 11th edition of the Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition (MMEC), consolidating its position as one of the leading references in Mozambique’s mining sector.

This latest recognition consistently reinforces Vulcan’s trajectory in the country’s extractive industry, highlighting the continuity of its performance and the strength of its position. The company reaffirms its commitment to innovation, sustainability, operational excellence, and the development of the communities in which it operates, while remaining focused on creating shared value and driving the sustainable growth of Mozambique’s mining sector.
