Secretary of State satisfied with the progress of the works of the new resettlement of the communities

The Secretary of State in Tete Province, Cristina Mafumo, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction works of the new resettlement neighborhood in Nhamitsatsi, which is in its final phase. The project, budgeted at US$20 million, includes the construction of about 200 houses for an equal number of families, and is being carried out by Vulcan as part of the expansion of its operations in Moatize, which provides for the relocation of the communities of Ntchenga and Mpandwe.
The visit, held on Monday, November 10, was attended by several government officials and representatives of Vulcan. The delegation began the tour of the model house, where they received a detailed explanation about the project, then went inside the new village, where they visited the houses and the various social infrastructures, including the health center, the school, the market, the water supply system, among others.

At the end of the visit, Cristina Mafumo highlighted compliance with resettlement standards and the quality of the works, stressing that the conditions created guarantee a real improvement in the lives of the beneficiary families.
“The conditions are in place. We have essential infrastructure here and, in this final phase, we will only monitor and make small recommendations,” said Cristina Mafumo.
Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) of Vulcan, said that the goal is to transform Nhamitsatsi into a model village, a symbol of development and good social practices.
“We want this new community to show that mining can drive progress. Our social license comes from the communities themselves, so we will continue to invest in projects to generate income and improve living conditions,” Kumar concluded.
