More than 1,000 families in Cateme-Sede now have access to electricity with the support of Vulcan

The community of Cateme-Sede, in the district of Moatize, is experiencing a new chapter in its history with the arrival of electricity from the national grid, the result of an investment by Vulcan, which has built a sustainable electrification system for the town.
The official inauguration of the infrastructure took place on 13 June and was presided over by the Governor of Tete Province, Domingos Viola, who highlighted the transformative impact of the initiative for more than 1,000 families who have already had their homes connected.
“We want to thank Vulcan for this investment. We know that with energy, new activities will emerge in Cateme-Sede, such as locksmiths, fresh produce shops and other initiatives that will energise local life.” The Governor also appealed: “This is a service that must last. Take good care of the system, be vigilant. There are people who steal these systems, so the community must be vigilant.”
The new electrical infrastructure is part of Vulcan’s social responsibility plan, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable development in the Moatize district.
For Pedro Muendane, speaking on behalf of Vulcan, the project is another step towards strengthening social inclusion and opportunities in communities. “Access to energy changes everything. It’s not just about light, it’s about opportunities. We hope to see more young people studying at night, shopkeepers extending the hours of their activities, small businesses springing up with vigour and security reinforced for everyone.”
The initiative reinforces Vulcan’s strategy of investing in human capital and essential infrastructure, consolidating its presence as an active partner in Moatize’s social and economic progress.
