Moatize to have a district hospital financed by Vulcan
The district of Moatize took a historic step on 3 October, when it hosted the laying of the foundation stone for the upgrading of the Moatize Health Centre into a District Hospital, as part of the Presidential initiative ‘One District – One Hospital’. The event, led by the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, marks an important moment for improving the region’s health infrastructure.
This project, valued at around 4 million dollars and financed by Vulcan, is part of the company’s range of social responsibility actions, which aim to guarantee access to quality health services for communities.
With this redevelopment, the new Moatize District Hospital will have the capacity for more than 50 beds, an emergency block, operating theatre, X-ray, laboratory, wards, morgue, maternity ward, among other essential infrastructures to expand health coverage in the region.
During the event, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, highlighted the importance of Vulcan’s collaboration: ‘I want to take this opportunity to thank Vulcan, which is contributing to the requalification of this health centre, demonstrating social responsibility and commitment to the health of our population.’
Speaking on the occasion, Vulcan’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Mukesh Kumar, said: ‘We are committed to the well-being of the communities around our operations, which is why we are implementing various social responsibility projects in different areas.’
This is a reflection of Vulcan’s and the Government of Mozambique’s ongoing commitment to improving public health and the development of the communities in and around Moatize.
