Family poultry farming transforms lives in Moatize with Vulcan’s support

Vulcan launched the third phase of the Family Poultry Farming Project on 20 July in Moatize District, Tete Province, an initiative aimed at promoting food security, encouraging self-employment and strengthening the economic empowerment of beneficiary families. Implemented under the motto “Promoting self-employment and sustainable family income”, the project benefits 60 citizens in this phase.

The ceremony was led by the Secretary of State in Tete Province, Cristina Mafumo, who visited one of the beneficiaries’ poultry farms and handed over production input kits and freezers to the participating cooperatives, strengthening the conditions for the sustainable development of poultry farming activities within the communities.

During the event, Cristina Mafumo highlighted the importance of the partnership between the Government of Moatize District, the private sector and communities in promoting initiatives that contribute to the sustainable development of families.

“Our appeal to all beneficiaries is that they embrace this opportunity with a strong sense of responsibility in managing the resources provided and adopting good production practices to ensure the success of this initiative. We also call on Vulcan to continue investing in projects that promote human development in this province,” said Cristina Mafumo.

Representing Vulcan, Pedro Muendane explained that the third phase of the project introduces a new component compared to previous phases, by incorporating a market access component designed to facilitate the commercialisation of beneficiaries’ production.

“This phase is different from the previous ones because it includes a market component. As a company, we decided to introduce this element because we understand that market access is one of the main challenges faced by producers. We hope this will help beneficiaries increase their income by facilitating the sale of their products,” said Pedro Muendane.

Among the beneficiaries, the initiative is seen as an opportunity to improve families’ living conditions. Sofia Bernardo, one of the project participants, said that poultry farming is already generating positive impacts for her household.
